> Unfortunately it does NOT work for me as described before

Could you check your profile comes from a compatible thunderbird version
(but if it doesn't it should tell you on first start with a dialog) and
report your problem upstream? If thunderbird fails to use a valid
profile copied manually then it's not a snap issue (unless your userdir
is on a non standard location/nfs share or similar)

Title:
  Thunderbird profile not migrated to snap

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Today's update installed the thunderbird snap and removed the
  thunderbird binary but it did not migrate my thunderbird profile.

  Now I don't have access to any old mails anymore.

  Looking at ~/.thunderbird:

  $ cat profiles.ini
  [Profile1]
  Name=default
  IsRelative=1
  Path=ao6t0qef.default
  Default=1

  [InstallFDC34C9F024745EB]
  Default=ji04wv64.default-release
  Locked=1

  [Profile0]
  Name=default-release
  IsRelative=1
  Path=ji04wv64.default-release

  [General]
  StartWithLastProfile=1
  Version=2

  ji04wv64.default-release is the folder that should have been migrated.
