I think it's similar to a degree, the other bug starts in the overview and similarly attempting to interrupt the transition, I can confirm the behaviour of seeing "a part of the previous workspace for a second or two" on GNOME 42. My issue is slightly different as it starts from the desktop and interrupts the transition by going to the overview (as demonstrated in the screen recording).
I think both bugs speak to additional polish needed for the workspace transitions namely preventing an in progress transition from being interrupted regardless of being on the desktop or the overview. Fixing this may help to improve some of the unintended transitions I see when using rapid trackpad gestures, and the transitions sometimes feeling like they go somewhere different than intended (3 swipe down to desktop sometimes lands me on an adjacent desktop, but don't know how to reliably reproduce hence haven't created a bug for this). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1968425 Title: Workspace switching interruptible with trackpad overview gesture Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Description: Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (development branch) Release: 22.04 gnome-shell: Installed: 42.0-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 42.0-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 42.0-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What happened: On the desktop when using a trackpad 3 finger swipe to switch to an adjacent workspace, if a 3 finger swipe up gesture to go to the activities overview is invoked during the transition animation it will abruptly cancel the transition and go to the overview at the original workspace. The abrupt cancellation can make the workspace/overview experience feel a bit jerky. What I expected: The transition to be non interruptible with the activities overview gesture only being able to used when the transition has concluded. This is the behaviour I observe when using workspaces on macOS. screen recording demonstrating this with libinput debug-gui to show trackpad gestures is attached ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: gnome-shell 42.0-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.15.0-25.25-generic 5.15.30 Uname: Linux 5.15.0-25-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu80 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Apr 9 15:08:52 2022 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2022-03-31 (8 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Beta amd64 (20220329.1) RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 42.0-1ubuntu1 SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1968425/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
