Apparently you didn't know there are two kinds of "username". While you can't change the login name easily after a user has been created, being able to change the display name (as shown on the login screen, for instance) is a reasonable feature.
Possibly there is room for clarification in the UI. If you think there is, I would suggest that you file an upstream issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues But that would be another kind of bug, so closing this one. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956391 Title: Changing username from gnome-control-center does not change the user home directory or name within the OS Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: Changing the username from gnome-control-center 's users panel does not change the user home directory or name within the OS.
