This appears to be a desktop machine so please don't install any brightness controlling software as that's likely to cause more problems than it solves. You should adjust the brightness on the TV itself.
Also please try a different VGA cable if you can. Or at least unplug both ends and plug them in again firmly. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => linux-oem-5.14 (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - Screen flickering or going black + [i915] Screen flickering or going black ** Summary changed: - [i915] Screen flickering or going black + [i915] TV connected by VGA is flickering or going black -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1955632 Title: [i915] TV connected by VGA is flickering or going black Status in linux-oem-5.14 package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I've been using Ubuntu 20.04 for a long time now and have had no problems. Then suddenly the screen started flickering. I tried PCLinuxOS but the screen just goes black. I found, on Ubuntu, installing brightness-controller and putting the screen brightness down below half way and the setting to Clear Blue Sky helps quite a lot but is hard to see. It still flickers once in awhile. And I cannot create a file in /sys/class/backlight to make the change permanent on boot. The only major change I can think of is setting LivePatch up that could have caused the flickering. Thank you, I hope you find the fix as no Linux distros will work on my ThinkCentre desktop PC.
