I'm not sure... it is a subscription request from the other user to subscribe to your online status.
I have no issue with adding a more descriptive/informational message, but it should be clear that the other user can now monitor your status (I would suppose that is exactly what the term "Subscription Request" is meant to imply). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/512761 Title: “Subscription request” dialog is confusing Status in Chat app, and Telepathy user interface: Confirmed Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: empathy When someone tries to add me to their contact list, the “Subscription request” dialog appears. However, this dialog is very unclear and confusing. The title is “Subscription request”, which in itself is not very clear (did I subscribe to something) and 3 buttons (“Decide Later”, “No”, “Yes”) are presented to the user, but no question is asked (see attached screenshot). The title should be changed and a question should be asked to the user, something along the lines of “John Smith wants to chat with you. Do you want to accept his request and add him to your contact list?” with clear labels on the buttons, such as “Decide Later”, “Refuse”, “Accept”.
