gnome-shell spamming the log

Bug description:
I don't know what happened, but I just sat down at my machine to find
it sluggish. Digging further, I find that gnome-shell is spamming the
system log with these messages:

Restarting the shell with:
busctl --user call org.gnome.Shell /org/gnome/Shell org.gnome.Shell Eval s
'Meta.restart("Restarting…")'
restored it to sanity.
