This desktop file contains NoDisplay=true because it is meant to be replaced by the desktop file installed by the snap package, which lives in /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/chromium_chromium.desktop. If both were visible, desktop environment would show two entries for chromium, which would be confusing.
I'm not familiar with LXDE/LXQt, but IĀ assume it should respect the XDG spec by looking for desktop files under $XDG_DATA_DIRS, which snapd patches to add /var/lib/snapd/desktop (can you confirm the value of the environment variable does contain this path?). If it doesn't, that would be a bug in the DE. There is some code in the wrapper script (/usr/bin/chromium-browser) that handles replacing existing favourites for various well-known desktop environment (see https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~chromium-team /chromium-browser/groovy-stable/view/head:/chromium-browser), but it doesn't yet handle LXDE/LXQt. Contributions to implement this are very welcome. ** Changed in: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887227 Title: desktop launcher for chromium invisible Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Hi, I was wondering why I could not launch chromium from Lubuntu desktop since upgrading to 20.04. The chromium package has been replaced by a stub package which just installs the chromium snap. The desktop launcher just does not show an entry for chromium. The reason might be that /usr/share/applications/chromium-browser.desktop contains NoDisplay=true After removing this line, everything works fine and as normal, desktop launcher has an entry and it works. So why does that file contain that line inhibiting it's function?
