Title:
unresolvable dependencies for the libexif-dev package

Status in libexif package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: libexif-dev

  Ubuntu Distro:
  Description: Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS
  Release: 8.04

  "apt-cache policy libexif-dev" output:
  libexif-dev:
    Installed: 0.6.16-2.1
    Candidate: 0.6.16-2.1ubuntu0.1
    Version table:
       0.6.16-2.1ubuntu0.1 0
          500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages
   *** 0.6.16-2.1 0
          500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  The problem:
  1. When I try to install this package from Synaptic I get the following error:
  "libexif-dev:
Depends: libexif12 (=0.6.16-2.1) but 0.6.16-2.1ubuntu0.1 is to be installed"
  2. If I try to install from the deb file downloaded via browser with the
following instruction:
  sudo dpkg -i libexif-dev_0.6.16-2.1_amd64.deb
  I also get an error:
  "Selecting previously deselected package libexif-dev.
(Reading database ... 234604 files and directories currently installed.)
  Unpacking libexif-dev (from libexif-dev_0.6.16-2.1_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of libexif-dev:
   libexif-dev depends on libexif12 (= 0.6.16-2.1); however:
Version of libexif12 on system is 0.6.16-2.1ubuntu0.1.
  dpkg: error processing libexif-dev (--install):
   dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   libexif-dev"

  Cheers.
