color correction not working

Bug description:
I'm digitalizing old receipts. They turned pale. I tried adding more
contrast but the scan result in both (min. , max.) is the same.
I tried different versions of simple scan.
I works fine in xsane.
Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release: 18.04
Simple scan: 3.30.1.1-1
Expected output: picture with more contrast
Instead: unreadable picture
