This problem is really unexpected and has caused me a lot of grief. When
I got a message from a identity protection service that my gmail account
MAY have been compromised, I changed my gmail password. Then as soon as
I tried to get mail via thunderbird, I got imap authentication errors.

Bug description:
this is a KNOWN problem as I have seen similar question on the
Internet and it appears that something screwed up with Thunderbird in
recent updates with their OAuth2 authentication method code. I am
running Thunderbird 60.9.0 which appears to be the latest available
