Just a brief note, I had a play on 18.04 LTS using GNOME and straight after deleting a file I was offered a message "blah deleted (undo)" which is in my opinion equivalent to the delete message anyway. Same response as in 19.10 (which has a later gnome/nautilus)
What you want is what I found in `pcmanfm` (LXDE's File Manager) so switching file managers is always an option - but that's a support issue.
