Public bug reported: * When an external, encrypted harddrive is connected to my laptop's docking station, sometimes after switching users or logging back in after a suspend, the gnome-shell password dialog is asking for the harddrive's password for decryption.
* When entering the password and hitting enter, pressing the continue button, or pressing the cancel button, I expect the dialog to close or in case of a wrong password to stay open and tell me so. * Instead the dialog box does not react. It is not possible to close or remove it. I have to parallely log in as another user and do 'sudo kill -HUP <pid of first user's gnome-shell>' and log back in as the original user The problem is known upstream and I have identified two patches, which I believe fix this problem: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/commit/5594a1ee0b4cd66be1729286b3c34ca519909366 https://gitlab.gnome.org/spinnau/gnome- shell/commit/7026a6fd325a2fe632d1f8b3fca2aeec3aa5f380 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: gnome-shell 3.28.4-0ubuntu18.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-58.64-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-58-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.7 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Aug 15 20:38:55 2019 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-09-01 (348 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/zsh SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic third-party-packages -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1840353 Title: password dialog is non-responsive Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: * When an external, encrypted harddrive is connected to my laptop's docking station, sometimes after switching users or logging back in after a suspend, the gnome-shell password dialog is asking for the harddrive's password for decryption. * When entering the password and hitting enter, pressing the continue button, or pressing the cancel button, I expect the dialog to close or in case of a wrong password to stay open and tell me so. * Instead the dialog box does not react.
