Is this only on disco or is it observed on prior versions? I was planning to upgrade and have two systems with nvidia GPUs. On cosmic I cannot see the resident memory grow as described above.

At the same time, gnome-shell appears to become progressively less responsive. Restarting gnome-shell (via <Alt><F2> restart) drops shell RSS down to ~400MB and improves system responsiveness a bit.
