Due to bad interactions with gdm (namely gnome shell process under gdm user consuming a whole logical core), I had to move to lightdm. I will try with it and report back.

GDM does not start even if it seems to be trying to for many times. I see a systemd message that the dGPU could not be switched off. Also, I get a flickery screen on TTYs until GDM gives up with the screen alternating between the TTY and the systemd textual log. Once that stops flashing I manage to prime-select nvidia and reboot cleanly. This is certianly better than before the update but it does not fix the situation fully. I am using bionic with all updates applied. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Dependencies: DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-10-02 (322 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Beta amd64 (20171002) NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia Package: nvidia-prime 0.8.8 PackageArchitecture: all Tags: bionic Uname: Linux 4.18.3-041803-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-04-22 (120 days ago) UserGroups: adm audio cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-prime/+bug/1788113/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
