Hello Bruce, Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with the system-config-printer package. You made this bug report in 2013 and Ubuntu and the system-config-printer package have been updated since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket? If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug? If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once): apport-collect 1382889 and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better. I had to install the correct driver to get it to work *at all*. You have to install the one that says "for cups". I have this ~/installationfiles/READ.ME file: After downloading the Brother MFG 7820N CUPS driver (apt-get-installs in this directory; see http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/MFC-7820N) need to set up the printer to use it. Set to: ipp://192.168.0.150 Under Change Driver, select printer from database then Brother Under driver Select MFG7820N for CUPS Use the new PPD (Postscript Printer Description) as is Modify the printers configuration file sudo stop cups sudo emacs --no-splash /etc/cups/printers.conf # comment out the stupid authorization line sudo start cups Okay, fine, that fixes the problem. But then why do I have to reconfigure this over and over again? And why doesn't somebody delete the broken cups driver and replace it with the one that works? Ubuntu seems to come with "cups" out of the box so shouldn't the CUPS driver be the default? And why does it keep setting my printer to a location called "mightyMini" which is not the correct IP address? I really would like to be able to just turn my system on and use my printer. Thanks for any help with this!
