Hello again Wise,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a suggested improvement to add
duckduckgo as a default search engine with Thunderbird. You made this bug
report in 2015 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu and Thunderbird
since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 1503383
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.
G

Title:
Have DuckDuckGo in the list of search engines that a user may choose
  as default

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
In Mozilla Firefox it is not the default, but it is listed in the list
of search engines which you may easily make the default for you, so I
think that DuckDuckGo (https://duckduckgo.com/) should also be in that
list in Mozilla Thunderbird. I have attached a screenshot of the list
I mean (and I have put a red box around it just to be extra clear).
