(A green gradient with direction "30°" appears as default settings). In an attempt to change the direction, type "90[TAB]" in the direction field. I expected the rectangle will have a gradation from top to bottom. (gradation did not change) 4) What happened: The number I typed in got a degree sign "°" appended. The gradation direction did not change. To see if the direction that I entered was stored in any way, I clicked on the slide outside the rectangle, then clicked on the rectangle again, to refresh the propeties section. The direction field showed the original default value "30°" I compared this to a windows version, recently installed, and the windows version worked as I expected.
