Having trouble getting drop down menus to work and fire fox repeatedly crashes all open programs

When it freezes everything else freezes and the entire OS crashes. None of the menus even pop up or drop down. All I see is a grey little box. Due to this problem, I can't even report a bug. Let me know what I can do. 1. Ubuntu 11.10 2. Firefox 12.0+build1-0ubuntu0.11.10.1 3. Expect the effective/efficient Firefox from Lucid Lynx for multi-purpose use. 4.
