** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1478132 When "Icons on Desktop" is off still no Desktop in side bar in Nautilus -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1478125 Title: If "Icons on Desktop" is disabled, programs can still create files there, just they are not seen Status in gnome-tweak-tool package in Ubuntu: New Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have found that annoyingly programs create icons on the desktop, but because the setting "Icons on Desktop" is off, I have to then turn it on so that I am able to view the desktop icons and remove it, and the only reason I know that anything is there is because of the fact that when I upload a file somewhere, the default location to look in is the Desktop so I see what is there. But otherwise in Nautilus I don't even get a link to the Desktop. So I think that it would be good if programs weren't allowed to create files on the desktop if you have the option "Icons on Desktop" enabled, or at least for the user to be prompted if they want the icon to be created there and for the option to be disabled. As the way it currently works could be exploited by attackers, because they can store files there, and it is unlikely that anyone will ever realise that they are there because it is very hard to view the desktop.
