Public bug reported:

I'm unable to login to gnome software on an up to date 16.04 system (a
clean brand new dell xps laptop which has been dist-upgraded to latest
packages in xenial)

Currently have version 3.20.1+git20170208.0.a34b091-0ubuntu1~xenial1
installed.

When I try to login it just claims my password is wrong. This sounds
like bug 1616943 which is apparently fixed.
