As such, the file format is m4a, which may be the root of this problem. Once the podcast is playing, I'll pause playback using either the controls that appear when clicking the volume control in the Unity system tray, or by just using the regular playback controls in Rhythmbox. To resume playback I press the play button, but play does not resume. I must move the scrubber to a new location before playback will resume.
