Installed the 301.132-ubuntu2 release from Zesty on Mom's computer. That does indeed allow the module to load, but puts you right back at the GLX error.
Removed the nvidia-304 package and thankfully, nouveau seems to have improved somewhat and now works for her. Have enclosed error log, although it should probably go in another bug. ** Attachment added: "glx-error.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1634802/+attachment/4780156/+files/glx-error.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634802 Title: Could not insert module Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 source package in Yakkety: Triaged Bug description: Ubuntu release: 16.10 Yakkety Yak Kernel version: 4.8.0-22-generic x86_64 Package version: 304.132-0ubuntu1 The nvidia module cannot be loaded.
