(beneath some undeterministic flickering at the startup..) On ubuntu 14.04 with kernel 4.2.0-42 the screen resolution is not working properly. It is too big. One could barely log in (because one could not click on the preferred user to log in, because it is not visible on the screen). Also on Ubuntu 16.04 with kernel 4.4.0-21, and "try ubuntu live"-mode, the screen resolution is not working properly in the same manner. Some testing showed that kernel 3.13 is using: dmesg | egrep 'drm|radeon' [drm] Initialized radeon 2.36.0 20080528 for 0000:02:00.0 on minor 0 which is ok. while ubuntu 14.04 at kernel 4.2 is using: [drm] Initialized radeon 2.43.0 20080528 for 0000:02:00.0 on minor 0 and ubuntu 16.04 at live mode, at kernel 4.4.0-21 is also using: [drm] Initialized radeon 2.43.0 20080528 for 0000:02:00.0 on minor 0 On the failing kernels 4.2 and 4.4 xrandr says: xrandr --prop scaling mode: None supported: None, Full, Center, Full aspect *** while on kernel 3.13 and radeon 2.36.0 there is no output of: "scaling mode: None" *** lspci -nn | grep VGA 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
