lirc fails to work with mce remote

Bug description:
Binary package hint: lirc
After upgrading to maverick, lirc no longer works with microsoft media
center remote and receiver. I attempted to reinstall lirc, choosing
the mce option when prompted, but nothing shows up in irw, or with the
gnome-lirc-properties.
