Everything seems ok after rebooting again. After writing this bug report I did a reboot, I started the normal programs I am working with now : Firefox, Chromium , LibreOffice and there were no more system problems/crashes reported (I think I waited for 10 minutes in case some error showed up, but everything seems fine) Thanks !

So I did the forced shutdown by holding the powerbutton for 5 seconds. after this I followed the instructions on the an ubuntu help page of how to deal with this interrupted upgrade (this one: http://serverfault.com/questions/8540/recover-from-shutdown-during-ubuntu-distribution-upgrade and then after upgrading also this one: http://askubuntu.com/questions/657940/how-to-resume-the-interrupted- upgrade-from-14-10-to-15-04) and I successfully upgraded... I think. I rebooted the system after the upgrade and then this program crash happened. I don't know how it affects the OS because everything seems to be working ok so far.
