Public bug reported: upon a fresh boot or restart the lightdm greeter gtk theme shows network applet and shutdown/reboot button in the upper right corner. nevertheless, after a logout from an xfce session these widgets are missing from the greeter and therefore the machine cannot be shutdown. on some computers i can switch to console (ctrl-alt-f1) and press ctrl- alt-del for a reboot but on some the console also does not appear (ie it's completely black without a login prompt).
my /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf is [SeatDefaults] greeter-session=unity-greeter is it possible this is related to the pam_systemd.so module and/or systemd itself?
