I also followed the instructions for startup problems, but no log file appeared in /tmp called pulseverbose.log

When I start the computer, pulseaudio is not working after I've logged in. If I type: start-pulseaudio-x11 from the command line, I get "Connection failure: Connection refused pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refused" and I cannot play any sound. If I type pulseaudio& on the command line, I can get sound in some applications (e.g. Audacity) but not others (e.g. Firefox or other browsers). At some point a command line message appears that says: "E: [pulseaudio] bluez5-util.c: GetManagedObjects() failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."
