I'm running a VMWARE virutal machine. Every time the host renews its
DHCP lease, the virtual interface of the VM is cycled.

I suspect that the state change bound->bound causes a short (unnoticable
to humans) interruption of the networking config, which the virtual
interface for the VM notices. (in the VM the network then goes down for
about ten seconds! Noticeable to humans... ).
