Please note that the current situation effectively turns off umts/lte
stick support for Ubuntu 16.04, because most of these devices require
usb mode switching.

Please consider an upgrade of usb-modeswitch to 2.3.0 (I just installed
that version from debian SID and could use mobile internet immediately)
or at least downgrading usb-modeswitch-data (this would re-enable mobile
internet support at least for users of old devices) .

Title:
  usb-modeswitch doesn't support usb-modeswitch-data 20160112-1

Status in usb-modeswitch package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Hi, this is not a real bug, but it may be somehow annoying - there is
a new version of usb-modeswitch-data (Proposed: 20160112-1), but the
usb-modeswitch seems it doesn't work with this version so it cannot be
  upgraded. Thanks.
