Public bug reported: The proprietary driver provided by Nvidia absolutely bricks the X server on 14.4 x64. i've had to re-install to fix the issue.
ive been running into x-server problems even with the Nvidia driver provided in ubuntu updates, and the latest unity update causes X to randomly crash sometimes. i have to exit though Ctl Alt F1 and restart it. i believe it's still related to the Nvidia driver though. (as seen in the error report) I suggest ubuntu staff notify users to avoid using provided Nvidia packages from the nvidia site: they seem to be responsible for some of the login-loop issues. (which is an Xserver issue, not Lightdm like others say) some of the ubuntu-dist nvidia packages might be doing it too.
