Bill, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please run the following command once from a terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg 1537904
Please ensure you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. When reporting xorg related bugs in the future, please do so via the above method. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1537904 Title: black screen on boot; boot unsuccessful Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau used to work perfectly. Then I attached a 2nd monitor and adjusted the settings (successfully, as I thought), but the next boot was to a black screen. I can only boot in recovery mode, and cannot access high resolution (1600 x 900). I gave up on the 2nd monitor, uninstalled and re-installed xserver- xorg-video-nouveau, then installed (and removed) in turn the three proprietary nvidia drivers, none of which worked. They are now purged, and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau reinstalled. I've looked for solutions on the web, but I'm at a complete loss. Thanks for any help you can give.
