When things are working correctly the files are automatically unlinked. When something fails evince will print out an error message and forget to clean up the temporary files. Each time it happens the following three lines are printed: Error: failed to load truetype font some font thing failed and a file with a random six character name is left in /tmp. It would be a good idea to use slightly more descriptive names for the temporary files such that the culprit is easier to identify when something goes wrong.
