I'm experiencing this bug as well. Running Xubuntu (Xfce) 15.10 (wily) x86 (kernel 4.2.0-16) connected to a 1360x768 Hyundai IQ television monitor via a standard VGA cable. In 14.04 (trusty), I can manually set the screen resolution to 1360x768 and it will survive reboots, but in 15.10 the setting will usually - but not always - revert itself to 1280x1024, which looks horrible and is non-native for this display. The login screen is *never* the correct resolution after a restart. I have only a single user configured, and no custom backgrounds selected.

It is always 1920x1080, while I prefer 1360x768. I am using HDMI to my LG47LM620T television. Screen reports "Goldstar Company Ltd 72" which is wrong.
