Hinrik Örn Sigurðsson, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product- support/product/xps-13-9343-laptop/drivers/advanced an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A05). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?
If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a05 ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450952 Title: i915 backlight controls don't cover full range Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi. I'm using a Dell XPS 13 QHD+ (2015 version, model 9343), running Ubuntu Gnome 15.04. When I use the brightness control buttons to lower the backlight brightness, the lower end of the range (as reported by "cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness") is as follows: 0 (display off), 47, 94 ... However, I find 47 to still be too bright at night sometimes. I discovered that if I do "echo 1 > /sys/class/blacklight/intel_blacklight/brightness", I end up with a nice level of brightness which feels like it's about two steps down from 47 in terms of brightness. But there's no way to reach this brightness level using the brightness controls on the keyboard. Is it possible to add a couple of lower levels to the standard brightness range, changing [0, 47, 94, ...] to e.g. [0, 1, 24, 47, 94, ...]?
