I first described this bug in comment to duplicate https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics- drivers-331-updates/+bug/1450714 . They appeared one after another and I didn't distinguish them.

After restart the system seems to work correctly. Uninstalling nvidia-331-updates seemed to require manually killing nvidia-persiste[nced?] on both computers on which I have Nvidia drivers installed.
