The upstream gtk is considering backporting this change to gtk2: [1] What I find most important in the description is: With regards to the importance of having this only fixed in GTK 3. To be honest, as long as firefox still uses GTK 2 in most distributions this fix is more important for our users to have in GTK 2 then it is in GTK 3 :-/
