Nautilus does not use the thumbnailer, it does thumbnailing by itself. Thus this is not a bug in the thumbnailer library. Reassigning to Nautilus.

This is reproducible; if I clear that folder and then have Nautilus refresh a folder with three GIFs in it, three PNGs will appear.
