.cache/unity8-dash should be enough to remove, after which one can go to Video scope and pull down to refresh to test whether download works.
My mako PIN dialog problem is bug #1376250 (happens on mako only) and can be workarounded via system settings -> security. The wifi being simply powered on is not the key - if not connected to a wifi network, 3G keeps reconnecting. The only way for a stable 3G connection with the PPA is to have wifi connecting to a network on boot, after which the wifi can be disabled to use 3G only with the original bug fixed.
