( see http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/2.0/desktop-notification- area.html ) If you use OpenOffice often enough, you want it to load fast so you might want to use the OpenOffice quickstart option. But why oh why this implies that you also want an icon in your notification area ? There is no intuitive link between the concept of quickstart and notification area and this is a flagrant violation of the Gnome HIG. Having an icon in the notification area should be another option and not be related to the quickstart.
