A look at alsamixer in the terminal shows the PCM value is 0<>0 on the audio device. The slider in Ubuntu's desktop environment is at 100% when alsamixer shows PCM is at 100<>100 or Item: PCM dB gain: -0.06, -0.06 The slider is at 30% or so volume when I cease hearing anything and the PCM is at 0<>0 or Item: PCM dB gain: -28.19, -28.19.
