I am using Utopic Unicorn dev. branch and see the same problem. My
display manager is lightdm and I  use gnome-shell as window manager.

  gnome-session-quit does not work

Status in “gnome-session” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  When I go to the session menu -> Shutdown, or run gnome-session-quit 
--power-off, the dialog that appears does nothing. If I click the shutdown or 
restart button, the dialog closes but does nothing, the PC doesn't shutdown or 
restart.
  I have this problem from Ubuntu 13.10, I updated to 14.04 and the problem 
remains.
