I am having this same issue with my Thinkpad W510 Touchscreen (Wacom). https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input- evdev/+bug/1321351
If you google for HP TouchSmart Phantom Touches then you will get reports of others having this issue. This being said I don't think it is software related. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/HP-Envy- Touchsmart-15-Ghost-touch/td-p/2870001 A temp fix to see if it is your touchscreen is next time it happens, open a console and type "xinput list" to get a list of devices, then grab the numeric ID, say 15 for instance. Then run "xinput disable 15". Your issues should immediately stop. It sucks, I know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/749567 Title: Mouse cursor jumps and clicks randomly Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 and from time to time my cursor jumps erratically, clicking and opening stuff. I tried disabling desktop effects, thinking that it might be related to compiz. I have to mention that this happens on a desktop computer, not on a laptop. I am using an optical mouse that works fine on Windows XP. I only have this issue on Ubuntu 10.10. I've noticed that pressing ESC or Ctrl will stop the cursor from jumping for awhile but it starts again after a few seconds. --- .proc.driver.nvidia.agp.card: Fast Writes: Supported SBA: Not Supported AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x Registers: 0x1f000017:0x1f000104 .proc.driver.nvidia.agp.host.bridge: Host Bridge: PCI device 1106:3099 Fast Writes: Not Supported SBA: Supported AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x Registers: 0x1f000207:0x00000104 .proc.driver.nvidia.agp.status: Status: Enabled Driver: AGPGART AGP Rate: 4x Fast Writes: Disabled SBA: Disabled .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA Linux x86 Kernel Module 96.43.19 Wed Oct 27 19:01:34 PDT 2010 GCC version: gcc version 4.4.5 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.4.4-14ubuntu5) Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 DkmsStatus: nvidia-96, 96.43.19, 2.6.35-28-generic, i686: installed nvidia-96, 96.43.19, 2.6.35-23-generic, i686: installed InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release i386 (20100429) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology, Corp.
