I just wanted to make an update that dragging a window from one virtual screen to another with Workspace Switcher will ALWAYS trigger this bug and I don't know if it ever gets triggered any other way (can't remember right now). This could maybe be a bug in the Workspace Switcher? Any ideas on a more definitive test?
For now - I'm using the WS without ever dragging a window in it. This makes its funtionaliy more limited, but its better than killing Xorg! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1324302 Title: Xorg - Touch Pad/Screen loses events Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: HP Pavilion Touch-screen Laptop... Technically, Xorg isn't completely freezing. It will just suddenly start losing mouse events. I normally use the Synaptics touchpad and it seems these have a history of problems. Once I start losing events, I usually can't click on anything, or I'll move the mouse and get the response a few events later. This has a touch-screen too, and it will have the same problem. It's unclear if the events are being lost or delayed or what. However, the system becomes unusable and I end up switching to a text console and killing Xorg (and losing everything I was doing). Xorg restarts and then it will work fine for hours. It would seem that moving windows around in the Workspace Switcher while its showing the reduced-size views will trigger this bug the fastest. I usually see some Firmware errors when I switch consoles ... I checked the Changelog for the latest kernel, and the synaptics driver has a few bug fixes (as does my wireless driver). However, I don't know what patches ubuntu puts onto the stock kernel, so I'll wait for further instructions before trying the 3.14 kernel.
