The hardware is a Sony VAIO laptop. The KDE networkmanager applet shows 'cable unplugged' for the ethernet connection, but the cable is definitely connected. Three further pertinent points: 1. If I sleep and then resume almost immediately, the problem does not occur. I have to leave the laptop in sleep mode for at least an hour 2. Doing a 'restart' from the KDE menu after this, the computer boots up with no network interface at all, except for loopback. I have to do a full shutdown-power off-restart cycle to get ethernet back 3. This is a regression, as it was definitely working about a week ago so some recent update has broken it I'll attach the full syslog output later ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: network-manager 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.20-generic 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CRDA: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Date: Sun Oct 9 19:31:08 2011 Gconf: IfupdownConfig: auto lo iface lo inet loopback InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Beta amd64 (20110921.2) IpRoute: default via 192.168.2.1 dev eth0 proto static 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link metric 1000 192.168.2.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.7 metric 1 Keyfiles: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory NetworkManager.state: [main] NetworkingEnabled=true WirelessEnabled=true WWANEnabled=true WimaxEnabled=true ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_GB:en LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash RfKill: 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes SourcePackage: network-manager UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/871413/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
