Thank you for your bug report. How did you change your background image? The information used by the greeter is in accountsservice and not gsettings (nautilus/unity-control-center/gnome-control-center update it for you, that might not happen under other environments or if you change the configuration in some other way)

I am aware of the permissions required so as an example I selected a wallpaper that came with Ubuntu /usr/share/backgrounds/Foggy_Forest_by_Jake_Stewart.jpg After setting this as my own wallpaper, I rebooted. The unity greeter still shows the purple oregami wallpaper as a background. I even tried setting permissions to 777 on 'Foggy_Forest_by_Jake_Stewart.jpg ', but the greeter still did not change. I did verify in dconf-editor that the com.canonical.unity-greeter/background had been set to the path above. I also had a look at the log files and they only seem to point to warty-final-ubuntu.png, never my custom choice. (Attached) I was not able to find any configuration files so did not know where to dig around for this.
