* Do you see this only with windows guests? No, most of our KVM machines are Debian and/or Ubuntu. I didn't yet tried a Windows guest.
* Is there a linux distribution/release with which you can reproduce this? Distribution/release which works as expected: # lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS Release: 10.04 Codename: lucid virt-manager (0.3.10-2ubuntu2.2) libgtk-vnc-1.0-0 (0.3.10-2ubuntu2.2) python-gtk-vnc (0.3.10-2ubuntu2.2) Distribution which works slow: # lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS Release: 12.04 Codename: precise virt-manager (0.9.1-1ubuntu5.1) libgtk-vnc-1.0-0 (0.5.0-1ubuntu1) libgtk-vnc-2.0-0 (0.5.0-1ubuntu1) python-gtk-vnc (0.5.0-1ubuntu1) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gtk-vnc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/910058 Title: gtk-vnc is unusable slow compared to tightvncviewer Status in “gtk-vnc” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Ubuntu Precise with all updates gtk-vnc: libgtk-vnc-1.0-0 0.5.0-1ubuntu1 vinagre: 3.3.3-0ubuntu1 xtightvncviewer: 1.3.9-6.2 qemu-kvm: 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu2 Virtual guest with Windows 7 32bit When using Qemu-kvm to virtualize guests the virt-viewer and vinagre (both based on gtk-vnc) are very slow. The first drawing of a desktop of 1024x768 takes about 5 seconds. The mouse behaves very sluggish and you can actually move the mouse faster than displayed. When the physical mouse movement stopped the mouse pointer will still be moving for several seconds. Using vncviewer from the xtightvncviewer package does not have this problem. The initial screen is drawn in less than a second. The mouse movement is fast. Unfortunately xtightvncviewer is no alternative, since the keymaps are not mapped correctly.
