Hi Gunnar and All, Installed most recent (140412) Kylin build. Everything seems to be working OK now (except for the need of a little tweaking in Chromium).
The original problem might have been caused by the repo sync problem (Kylin repo was not available during the previous apt-get update). Let's hope this is the case.
