i have CTRL+F2 to run in the terminal session

  GDM doesn't restart after logout/switch user

Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Whenever X11 is restarted, whether by logging out or switching users
  in GNOME or by Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, GDM does not restart and the
  machine sits at a black screen. Ctrl+Alt+F3 does not switch to a new
  VT.
