Title:
high pitched sound when not playing sound

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
the noise is only heard with headphones, muting or changing the volume
does not affects the volume of the noise

the noise stops also when tuxguitar is open (even when not playing
  anything).

the workaround on bug #779655 did not solve my problem
