Alistair Cunningham, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Xorg randomly crashes when using xscreensaver and glslideshow

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When using xscreensaver with glslideshow, the X server randomly
crashes after a few hours. Typically, this manifests itself by my
coming to the computer after leaving it overnight, only to find it at
the X login screen. This happens most nights, and sometimes during the
day if I leave the computer long enough. I see the following in
  Xorg.0.log.old:

  Ubuntu is version 11.10.
  The "xorg" package is 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1.
The machine is a Lenovo Thinkpad W500. lspci -v reports:

I'm using the "Unity 2D" login and metacity window manager as "Unity"
and compiz suffer from severe screen corruption (which may or may not
  be related).
